Quick Note / FYI

As my involvement in Social Media Strategy has increased, I am also writing about that subject matter at: tSherrell.blogspot.com

I plan to continue what I started here at IA/UX, but felt it best to keep the two subjects separate for now.

Hello World!

Famous Darwin tree sketch.

Famous Darwin tree sketch.

This is my first entry on my first, very own blog. I thought it appropriate my “hello world” be at this moment, as today, September 10, 2009, I turn the big 4 – 0.

After much time acknowledging the importance of publishing a blog but always finding a project or client in more immediate need, I am finally taking the time. My plan for IA-UX is to craft a space for considering Information Architecture and User Experience Design from alternative, and hopefully at times, controversial perspectives.

Those who are familiar with me and my professional experience know my personal journey to Information Architecture was more of a Darwinian process of evolution than a well considered and executed career choice. Like some omnipresent, gravitational pull, every new experience and acquired skill, drew me closer to the sphere of Information Architecture and User Experience Design.

Once settled in the IA-UX world, I looked around at its inhabitants and found I was not alone with my path of varied experiences. Practitioners of IA-UX come from many diverse fields: library science, human-computer interaction, graphic design, marketing, psychology, industrial design, physical wayfinding, social sciences, as well as countless others. This conglomeration of desperate specialties makes our discipline a prime example of gestalt, or the idea that the whole is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.

Within the posts of IA-UX, I hope readers will find ideas to ponder, argue, and contribute. Certainly, some notions will seem “a bit stretched” — but that’s what its all about.

Kindest regards,
Trent Sherrell
